About Under the Mark
A free budget planner built by a small product studio, because the tool we wanted did not exist.

What this is
Under the Mark is a free budget planner. It does one thing that most budgeting tools do not: it shows what you planned to spend and what you actually spent on the same line, with the difference beside them. It also points out where you are paying more than you need to for services you already subscribe to.
There is no account, no paid tier and no trial. Everything you type stays in your own browser.
Why it was built
Most budgeting apps are trackers. They are very good at telling you where your money went once it has already gone, which is interesting but not much use. The thing that actually changes behaviour is seeing the gap between intention and reality while the month is still running.
That comparison — planned against actual — is standard practice in every finance department in the world, and almost absent from consumer budgeting tools. So we built one around it.
Who builds it
Under the Mark is made and maintained by Amcon Ceylon, a digital product studio based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The studio was founded in 2017 and builds web applications, browser extensions and product websites for clients internationally.
The same team writes the guides on this site. Where a guide covers a service or a price, we check it against the provider directly rather than repeating what other articles say.
How it stays free
Adverts on the guide pages, and occasional affiliate links where we recommend an alternative service. That is the whole business model.
Two rules we hold to. Commission never decides what we recommend or in what order — several of the alternatives we suggest most often are free and earn us nothing. And there are no adverts inside the app itself, only on the articles.
What we do not do
- We do not ask for your bank login. There is no bank connection of any kind.
- We do not upload, store or transmit your financial figures. There is no server holding them.
- We do not sell data, because we do not have any to sell.
- We do not give financial advice. See the disclaimer.
